Your street has one too

Pori scans a dandelion growing out of a pavement crack. What looks like one flower is many.

Pori crouches at the edge of the pavement, raises his phone and scans. A dandelion grows out of the crack and opens.

Dandelions belong to the daisy family. Like their relatives, they have very small flowers collected into one flower head. So when you look at one dandelion, you're looking at a whole bouquet.

Down in the crack, a firebug is hiding. Firebugs are red and black and often gather in groups at the foot of walls and trees.

Try it outside

Go on a dandelion hunt with a friend: who finds the most unusual place where one grows? Take a photo, don't pick it; bees and hoverflies still use late flowers in autumn.
